In the near future, sustainability will even be a bigger trend that people actually want to contribute to it. The number of small cars will increase in comparison with the bigger cars.  This is not only due to the amount of energy large cars required to run, it is also because people want a cheaper, convenient and easy-to-drive cars. The energy source of the future in my opinion will be battery powered electric vehicles because of its many advantages over other energy sources. More people will move away from high performance speed car because they just want to get from A to B safely, comfortably and efficiently.

The market for small size cars will soar in the near future due to the change of people’s thinking. They will go for small cars because they want to contribute to the environment. Small cars have many advantages compared to big cars. They are easier to park, they lessen congestion and they are cheaper and more efficient to run. The problem that often comes up is that small cars do not have the capacity of carrying many people or goods.

In the future, the size of the car will be smaller due to the emerging technology which becomes more and more compact. Therefore eliminating the large space needed to accommodate conventional technologies. Furthermore, the space needed inside the car will be less since 70% of the people who did the survey that I constructed actually only carry 2 passengers at once most of the time. Also 82.1% of them only carry a little belonging. This fact brings up possibility of having a folding/ detachable seats or cargo which can be detached off the vehicle when not used to increase efficiency.

The number of vehicles with conventional motors will be less now that we have in-wheel-motor technology. This is a technology where the motors are put in the wheel which eliminates the needs of gearing and mechanical drive train. By using the space in the wheels, it also gives more space in the car which is great when you try to design a small car. Having more space also means there can be lots of improvement on safety feature of a car which would not have been allowed when conventional engine and motor existed.

In terms of fuel resources, the battery power is looking quite promising as it can accommodate the range needed for most of the drivers we have today. Other than that, advantages of electric cars would be:
- It needs less servicing since there is less moving parts and that mitigates the chance of parts wearing out.
- Cleaner to handle as no oil is needed.
- With the regenerative brake system, the battery receives some energy which otherwise would have been wasted and also it extends longer brake life.
- When charged using renewable energy, it is absolutely a zero emission vehicle to run.
- Batteries flexibility to be distributed throughout a car makes the design more flexible. This flexibility will affect creativity which will affect the look of the vehicle itself.

Fast cars with high horse power have always been some people’s aspiration however in the future, more and more people will move away from this. Not saying that fast cars will despised but being able to travel fast will not be people’s priority when buying cars. People just want to get from A to B safely, comfortably and cheaply.

The Exterior look of the car will still be a huge driving factor when people choose car. It will depend what kind of look a particular person like but I can assure that more exploration and creativity would be possible when the development of battery or hydrogen power is taken further. The technology will be more forgiving in terms of its size which will result in more free space to design around. This will be happening when MORE people starting moving from petrol to more renewable resources.

People will be travelling in short trips, therefore eliminating the need of constant refueling of energy. A facility of where people can swap their almost empty battery with fully recharged one under a few minutes would be provided only for people with long distance travel need. Otherwise, people will be recharging their electric vehicles from house power socket.

Due to oil crisis and also the electric vehicle’s improvements, petrol will no longer be the main source of energy for transportation. People will move to smaller cars due to its advantages over big sized cars however, the look also plays a big part when choosing cars.
